After a long time Lewis Hamilton was able to fight for victory.
Mercedes, after the new improvements it prepared for the British Grand Prix, significantly increased its pace, so after Max Verstappen’s problem, the seven-time champion had the opportunity to fight for victory again. In the end it didn’t happen, but Mercedes is satisfied with the performance.

“I am very pleased.” said team boss Toto Wolff. “The car had excellent performance. We were in contention for the win and that is really encouraging. It seems that we lost a bit of momentum during the restart, but we didn’t suffer from the bouncing of the car, so our pace on the hard tires was as good as on the medium components. However, on the soft tire things were not so good as we had no grip. Had it not been for the safety car, Lewis would most likely have won the race. The most encouraging thing for us is that we had a car that we could race with.”
