Lewis and George Top of the Times To End Thursday in Bahrain
The first day of running in the 2024 season ended with Lewis P1 and George P2 in Free Practice 2 for the Bahrain Grand Prix.
The session took place in the cool of a desert evening, with conditions mirroring those we are expecting to see in Qualifying and the race itself in the next two days.
Our focus in FP2 centred on the red-walled Soft compound tyre, with Lewis’ effort of 1.30.374 0.2 seconds quicker than any other effort in the hour.
The rest of the grid followed suit to see what they could achieve over a single lap, with teams using varying fuel loads and engine modes.
Both drivers found improvements on their second push lap to set the time which saw them top the session.
Attention then switched to long runs on the Soft tyre, with the compound set to be used at some point during Saturday’s race.
Earlier on Thursday in FP1, both drivers carried out running solely on the Medium tyre, with Lewis P7 and George P9.
Qualifying tomorrow promises to be exciting, with little to separate the top teams headed into the opening weekend of the 2024 F1 season.
