Red Bull : Sergio Perez is a candidate for the title of champion

Red Bull F1 team boss Christian Horner admits that his driver Sergio Perez is a candidate for the title after a great victory on the streets of Monte Carlo, as is his teammate Max Verstappen.

A week after the team’s regulations that forced Perez to release Verstappen twice at the Spanish Grand Prix, Horner had to admit after Perez’s victory in Monaco that the Mexican is also in the title game.

Perez was disappointed with Red Bull’s team regulations and said ‘this is not fair’ on the radio during the race so this result is certainly a big boost for him for the rest of the season.

After a win in Monaco, his third in his career and second for Red Bull after the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Perez is just 15 points behind Verstappen and six points behind second-placed Leclerc.

“He’s in the championship game just like Max,” Horner told .

“The difference between them is 15 points. That’s nothing. “

“There is a lot left until the end of the season and we see that Ferrari has a very fast car. They had a better car than us on this track. ”

“I think that through great teamwork, great job as drivers, people in boxing, with a double stop, we managed to win on this track.”

“It will not be any easier in the next races. As a team, we always have to optimize our performance, and at the end of the championship things will become very interesting. ”

Horner praised Perez, who is much closer to Verstappen this year.

“He was great all weekend, he really deserved this. His speed in the input and output circuit, when we changed the rain tires for intermediates, was strong. ”

“The team did a double stop in boxing that allowed our drivers to overtake Ferrari, which is fantastic.”

“He’s doing a great job, look at his performance, he won that phenomenal pole position in Jeddah. The difference in speed between him and Max is much, much smaller this year. ”
