The dominance of the German team officially came to an end this year.
From 2014 until last year, Mercedes won the constructors’ championship every season, but in 2022, all the honors went to Red Bull. In the end, the team from Berkeley took only third place in the ranking of teams, but they managed to engage in the fight for second position with Ferrari until the end.
“If you look at the direction we’ve been moving forward, the gap to the leaders, especially in terms of race pace, we’ve made a lot of progress and you can only achieve that if you understand your problems, working on them as a team.” said Mercedes chief strategist James Vowles to the team’s YouTube channel.

At the last race in Abu Dhabi, Mercedes did not have the pace to fight with the leaders, where Lewis Hamilton had to retire and Jorge Russell had a big gap behind Max Verstappen. Despite that, everyone in the team is hoping for the best for 2023.
“Will it be enough to win next year? Our confidence comes from having the necessary tools at our disposal in our organization to create additional performance. There is concern and Abu Dhabi has shown it. I think that can be made up over the winter, I think we have good progress and a system that can do that. The development we showed during the season will continue during the winter. I think we will be in a very strong position next year.” added this Brit.
