Former Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton showed great perseverance in the race for the Spanish Grand Prix, but he is still far from the place where he would compete for the new title of champion in the elite championship. He spoke to the media about the problems that the Mercedes team is facing this season.
Hamilton started the race from sixth position, but ended up in the back when contact with Kevin Magnussen in the fourth corner forced him to go to the pit stop.
“I was not pessimistic – I was only 30 seconds behind. I wasn’t sure if we would be punished. I don’t know if the problem is the reliability of our car. We have already seen something happen in the race. I thought we should save our engine to serve us for some other battles. Still, I’m glad we didn’t do it in the end. “We have shown that we never give up,” said Lewis Hamilton.

“Since the last race last season, we have had problems. Things are constantly happening that make it difficult for us to progress. We had no luck with security vehicles and other things. However, we always return to the saddle, “said the British driver.
The leader in the general classification in the competition of drivers is currently Max Verstappen with 110 points, Charles Leclerc has six less, and the third place with 85 points is Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez. Mercedes is in the fourth and sixth positions – George Russell has 74 points, and seven-time champion Hamilton 46.
The seventh race of the Formula 1 championship will take place on May 29 for the Monaco Grand Prix.
