Kimi Raikkonen is officially retiring from the Formula 1 championship this season, and he decided to mark this moment by selling one of his V10 McLaren models from the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
This special chassis MP4-17A-06, started its life as a McLaren MP4-17 machine with Mercedes livery, designed by Adrian New and many other big names in the F1 championship. This car competed seven times during the 2002 season with Kimi who finished third in the Grand Prix of Europe at the Nürburgring. The 845 hp V10 engine was designed at the Ilmore Engineering plant, but was retired at the British Grand Prix race in 2002. Kimi then gave the McLaren team the best result of the season, finishing in second place in the Grand Prix de France race. With two more podiums and fourth place that followed in this car, David Coulthard once again drove the 06 chassis to third place at the United States Grand Prix races.
When he finds himself at the next auction event of RM Sotheby’s St. Moritz, this car will carry the 2002 MP4-17 Livery, but it is specifically tailored to the 2003 MP4-17D specifications, in which it raced a total of five times. Cultard managed to win the Australian Grand Prix race in this edition.
