2017 Ford Shelby Super Snake Widebody Concept or sale at the Mecum Auctions To be sold at the Kissimmee 2023 auction, Kissimmee, FL, January 4-15, 2023 . A one-owner example with an odometer reading of just 1,350 miles, this 2017 Ford Shelby Super Snake Widebody Concept was hand built on a 2015 chassis by the team at Shelby American in Las Vegas, Nevada, to explore the performance potential of the sixth-generation Mustang, with special emphasis on the new car’s independent rear suspension, the first ever on a production Mustang. In contrast to the previous Widebody Super Snake’s emphasis on drag racing, the new version was conceived as an athletic performer with superior handling and braking to match its formidable power—formidable, to the tune of 750 HP produced by the Super Snake’s 5.0L Coyote V-8 engine, which showcases a Shelby-Whipple supercharger and Borla cat-back dual exhaust and drives a 6-speed manual transmission.

Unveiled at the 5th Annual Carroll Shelby Tribute and Car Show on May 20, 2017, CSM No. 17SS0002C’s new wider body panels were sculpted to accommodate 2.5-inch wider front and 4-inch wider rear tracks. The extra room enables the use of Shelby American’s 20-inch Super Snake wheels, which are fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport 305 front and 345 rear aspect tires. With that much rubber on the pavement, Shelby engineers made the most of the new Mustang’s all-independent suspension, installing a fully adjustable coilover Shelby track suspension system by Cortex, Shelby American/Rogue Engineering tubular rear control arms, larger Shelby by Brembo brakes with red-painted calipers and grooved and vented rotors, hardened wheel studs and stronger spindles and hubs.

Finished in Lightning Blue with a black interior, this 2017 Super Snake Widebody concept combines all the special features of the 2017 Super Snake, including that model’s unique carbon fiber front and rear spoilers and associated aero components, carbon fiber mirror covers and other exclusive features with the quantum leap in track performance afforded by the Widebody’s vastly improved handling. Offered with the accompanying Shelby American sales contract, Ford window sticker and a custom car cover, this unique Shelby prototype merits a special place in any Shelby collection.
