1970 Pontiac GTO RAM Air IV Is Going To Auction

1970 Pontiac GTO RAM Air IV or sale at the Mecum Auctions To be sold at the Kissimmee 2023 auction, Kissimmee, FL, January 4-15, 2023. Finished in a beautifully deep Atoll Blue with a black interior, this 1970 Ram Air IV GTO from the The Chuck Cocoma Judge & GTO Ram Air IV Collection is one of just 302 WW-coded Ram Air IV GTOs built with the M21 close-ratio, 4-speed transmission in 1970. It was originally delivered to Shelton Pontiac-Buick in Rochester, Michigan, Zone 07, Dealer No. 720. Power steering and power brakes with front discs aid in drivability, while a console, Hurst shifter with T-handle, rear window defogger, Rally Gauge cluster with clock and hood tachometer add to the experience behind the wheel. It rolls on Rally II wheels with trim rings and correct Firestone Wide Oval tires, and the heavy-duty Saf-T-Track differential comes with a 4.33 final drive ratio.

While the 1970 GTO featured updated styling with all-new sheet metal below the beltline, it wasn’t the only updates for the model year, as the GTO powertrain lineup went through a little reshuffling. Though the standard 400/350 HP V-8, 366 HP Ram Air II and 370 HP Ram Air IV all returned with little change, the optional 400/255 HP 2-barrel “economy” engine was dropped from the lineup due to lack of demand and a new 455 HO engine entered the lineup. Rated at 360 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque, it was intended for heavily optioned cars with highway-friendly gearing. The Ram Air IV still stood firmly at the top of the performance heap for Pontiac in 1970, though this would prove to be its last year of production.

This gorgeous 1970 Ram Air IV, 4-speed GTO is a great opportunity for a discriminating collector to obtain one of the high points of the muscle car era, one that could keep up with the best that the competition had to offer. Its combination of an Atoll Blue and black color scheme and powertrain add up to a very attractive machine from both performance-oriented and aesthetic standpoints, making it a great addition for a well-curated Pontiac GTO or muscle car collection.
